Students outside Buckingham Palace in London

There are many reasons to choose a residential course with Discovery Summer

Our staff

Our staff are selected for their experience, professionalism, friendliness and enthusiasm. Our teachers are all qualified to teach English and are also talented in other areas (e.g. sports, dance, arts and crafts, IT, drama, music). Teachers are friendly and learning is fun!

Action-packed programmes

Seven days a week, from breakfast to bedtime, we offer a programme to cater for all tastes, interests and abilities which includes:

  1. One full-day and one half-day excursion per week.
  2. Afternoon activities such as arts and crafts, fashion, cookery, dance and film plus a wide variety of sports e.g. football, tennis, basketball, badminton, table-tennis and swimming.
  3. Evening entertainment such as discos, karaoke, dancing, talent shows, quizzes, competitions and team games.

Our English Student Hosts

This 'buddy system' is a special feature of our residential centres.

English children of the same age as the international students participate in classes (giving language support) as well as all the afternoon and evening activities. As they are residential, there are lots of opportunities for speaking English naturally throughout the day – and for making friendships that last well beyond the course itself.

55 different nationalities

At Discovery Summer you'll be meeting students from England and many other places, learning about their countries and how they live.

Airport transfers

We offer a professional and friendly 'Meet and Greet' service.

Once you have collected your luggage you will come out of the Customs Hall and see one of our airport representatives wearing our distinctive yellow shirt, holding a Discovery Summer sign with your name. Buses/taxis leave at regular intervals to take you to your centre.

On departure, we check you onto your flight and see you through the departure gate.

Airport transfers by coach or taxi are included in the fees on published arrival and departure dates between 10.00 and 15.00 hours from/to specific airports.

Special private transfers (at extra cost) can be arranged at any other time and from any other airport.

Excursions

Some of the most memorable days on a Discovery Summer course are the excursions!

Twice a week you'll be visiting interesting places such as London, where you'll have a sightseeing tour of the famous sites, visit museums, take a river trip and go shopping in the boutiques of Covent Garden; Birmingham and the nearby Cadbury's World (renowned for its chocolate); Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon; Oxford and Cambridge; Brighton; Bath – and many more, depending on your centre.

Welfare and accommodation

Our prime concern is student safety. We provide:

  • A safe, secure environment.
  • A staff/student ratio of at least 1:5 overall, ensuring close supervision at all times.
  • Resident staff on campus and available 24 hours a day.
  • A healthy choice of food to suit the tastes of students from many cultures.
  • A good standard of accommodation; boys and girls sleep in separate areas.
  • We will normally place you in accommodation with students from other countries. Where we offer single rooms, we mix nationalities in corridors. This helps you to make new friends and to practise your English.
