  • 1. Deposits and Payments

    • a) Your application form must be accompanied by a non-returnable deposit (£300). No booking will be confirmed without this deposit.
    • b) Payment of the balance of fees must be made in sterling 6 weeks BEFORE the arrival date. If payment is made by debit/credit card the balance will AUTOMATICALLY be deducted 6 weeks before the start of the course. If the booking is made fewer than 6 weeks before arrival date, full fees must accompany the booking form.

    2. Cancellation

    • If you have to cancel your booking, you must inform us as soon as possible. Cancellation fees will be charged as follows:
      • More than 30 days before arrival, loss of deposit.
      • Less than 30 days before arrival, loss of full fees.

    3. Miscellaneous

    • a) Discovery Summer accepts students on the assumption that they are in good health. We do not accept responsibility for: loss or damage to any property belonging to the students; injury or loss of life to any participant; loss or expenses due to delays or changes in air, rail, sea or other services, weather, quarantine, sickness, strikes or any other cause.
    • b) It is the student's responsibility to have a valid passport and to arrange all permits and visas.
    • c) Students are responsible for any damage they may cause and will have to pay the full cost of replacement or repair. On residential courses a £30 damage/loss deposit is taken from each student at the start of the course and returned in full providing no damage/loss has occurred.
    • d) Discovery Summer reserves the right to change or cancel course programmes without prior notice in the event of low numbers or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.
    • e) Promotional material – we take photographs and videos during our courses which we may use for promotional purposes. Please advise us at time of booking if you do not wish your son/daughter to appear in any promotional material.
    • f) In case of illness or injury Discovery Summer will follow the advice of the attending medical consultant unless advised otherwise by the parent/guardian.

      Each centre is registered with a local medical practice. Any student may be charged for a consultation with a doctor, however, in almost all cases initial consultation is free.

      Students from countries outside the EU are not entitled to free treatment but are insured under the Discovery Summer policy providing they do not need treatment for a pre-existing condition. The first £25 of each claim is not covered.

      Discovery Summer nurses/appointed First Aiders will administer common, non-prescribed medicine such as paracetemol and throat lozenges as necessary,unless we are advised by parents/guardians not to do so.

      In case of medical emergency, all students are taken to the nearest Accident and Emergency Hospital where initial treatment is free.

    • g) All sports are undertaken at students' own risk. If you do not wish your child to participate in any particular sporting activity, please advise at time of booking.
    • h) If you have come via an Agent, their Terms of Contract may apply to you, but we reserve the right to apply our own Terms.
    • i) We reserve the right to take any fair and reasonalbe action we think appropriate should a situation arise not coved by these Terms.
    • j) Discipline. Students attending our courses must abide by the rules of each centre. Discovery Summer reserves the right to suspend any student for misconduct without refund of fees, and all extra travel costs with be borne by the student's family.

    4. Medical and Travel Insurance.

    The following cover has been included in your fees unless your agency has arranged insurance cover for you. Cover applies from the time your child leaves home before the course to the time he/she returns home immediately after the end of the course.

    The first £25 of each claim is not insured. A claim form must be completed and a medical certificate may be required. Policy is subject to the laws and practices of the UK.

    5. Rules of Conduct

    These are important rules you must understand before joining our course. They will be explained to you in greater detail by your Course Director and your teachers when you arrive.


    DO
    • Speak English
    • Be on time (always)
    • Be kind and friendly to other students
    • Join in all the lessons and activities
    • Look after your belongings and the school
    • Keep your room tidy
    • Stay in your bedroom after bedtime and remain quiet
    • Give all your money to the Course Director/Admninistrator to look after
    • Have your Discovery ID card with you at all times

    DON'T
  • Leave the campus unless with staff
  • Smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs
  • Swear or fight
  • Drop litter, or chew gum
  • Use your mobile phone, MP3 player or handheld games console in lessons, activities or meetings
  • Damage school property
  • Steal or shoplift
  • Swim without a lifeguard being present
  • Use fire escapes unless for emergency exit
  • Go into the boys' accommodation if you are a girl or go into the girls' accommodation if you are a boy
  • Please note:
    • On arrival you will be asked to hand in your airline ticket, passport and all cash
    • Pocket money can be taken out at stated times (usually before excursions)
    • Any valuables must be locked away in your locker or suitcase or handed to the Course Office. We do not accept liability against theft or loss of money/valuables in our safekeeping or in any other locations (see Medical and Travel Insurance)
    • Any students breaking British Law or persisting in serious anti-social behaviour, will be disciplined. In serious cases students may be sent home at their own expense with no refund of fees.

    6. General Information


    Pocket Money/Valuables

    We recommend £60 per week to cover incidental expenses (postcards, stamps, drinks, souvenirs). Please bring Sterling cash in £5 or £10 notes. If extra pocket money has to be transferred during the course a £25 handling fee will be charged.
    We strongly recommend you do not bring unnecessary valuables with you.


    Laundry

    At all centeres, bed linen is supplied and laundered once a week. Bath/swimming towels are not provided.
    Personal laundry will be done for you once/twice a week. Please make sure your clothes are machine washable and named.


    Contact with your family

    Students are asked to telephone home on arrival and our staff will assist students in making these calls.
    Email access is available at all centres. Emergency contact details will be sent with confirmation of booking
