Health

In case of illness or injury, Discovery Summer will follow the advice of the attending medical consultant unless advised otherwise by the parent/guardian at time of booking.

Each centre is registered with a local medical practice. Any student may be charged for a consultation with a doctor. However, in almost all cases initial consultation is free.

Discovery Summer Appointed First Aiders will administer common, non-prescribed medicine such as paracetemol and throat lozenges as necessary, unless we are advised otherwise at time of booking. In case of emergency, all students are taken to the nearest Accident and Emergency Hospital where initial treatment is free.

Pocket money

We recommend £50 per week to cover incidental expenses (postcards, stamps, drinks, souvenirs). Please bring Sterling cash in £5 or £10 notes. On arrival a £30 damage/loss deposit will be lodged with the Course Director and returned in full at the end of the course providing no keys have been lost and no damage or nuisance has been caused.

If extra pocket money has to be transferred during the course a £25 handling fee will be charged.

Laundry

Bed linen is supplied and laundered at all centres. Bath towels are not provided. Personal laundry will be done for you once/twice a week.

Contact with your family

Our staff will help you phone home on arrival. Email access is available at all centres. Each course centre office has a telephone, fax and email. Emergency contact details will be provided with your confirmation documents.

Excursions

Staff supervise students in small groups on excursions. Responsible older students (12 years and over) are allowed a short time away from staff to go shopping with friends.

Promotional material

Sometimes we take photographs and videos during our courses which we may use for promotional purposes. Please advise us if you do not wish your son/daughter to appear in any promotional material.
